University Project - Northshore Maritime Green
Project Type
University Project
Date
May 2022
The aim of the project was to create an exciting accessible space at Northshore's newly created Maritime Green. When approached with this project, the Northshore and EDQ teams had requested that the classes at QUT create an accessible and useful space at Northshore that would draw in students and families and could be used 7 days a week.
Our idea began with a scavenger hunt that could be used to invite school groups out for excursions and teach them the history of the land of where the Northshore exhibit stands. Although, upon further research and feedback we decided to change our idea. Leading away from the scavenger hunt idea, our team decided to create a walk through Indigenous immersive photo lab experience. The main design theme of this art experience was based around the Indigenous seasons of the tribes around the Northshore area. We used these season themes to create 4 different sections of our space which then allowed users to walk through taking photos and reading history of the Indigenous land and peoples.
The set up of the idea consisted of three large shipping containers that were aligned in a U shape, allowing us to create the walk-through experience. We assigned quarters of the containers to the 4 seasons allowing the users to walk through the experience.
This project allowed me to put my skillset to use and work collectively and collaboratively with team members I had not met prior. I was able to effectively communicate and manage time when helping the team with this project. In the end, we delivered an effective presentation to the Northshore and EDQ team that took our project into consideration to come to life.
